The back seat has been upgraded to a legitimate cover, not a bath towel. Installation was easy, and while it's a smidge loose and the Golf logo in the middle is an eyesore, considering it was half the price of anything else specced to fit I'm totally happy. Now if only Sammy would stop trying jump in the front seat.

So, if I may ask, why not put Sammy in the back?

In the trunk? I prefer her in the back seat because I can seatbelt her in.

Can't imagine how you would have known.

Gotcha. We had that debate when we got Targa.

Ultimately, I think that the hatch is still pretty safe for her and she would hate the car even more than she currently does if her movement was restricted by a seatbelt.

Also, if kids come along(!!) , we would need to relocate her out of the back seat anyway.

Kids are an incredibly far off problem and unless a cage goes up between the trunk and the front, she'll come flying towards the front of the car in a head on. Which is bad for me and her.

Yeah, her riding in the back was supposed to be contingent on a cage. Yet, we’ve still not bought one.

I should change that.

Let's hope VW doesn't get any ideas about going crazy with the plastic cladding. Golf Alltrack? Eeeeeeh

For the latter problem, which I have never been able to solve with any dog any other way:

https://www.amazon.com/Walky-Adjustable-Automotive-Headrest-Application/dp/B0039U7NOO/

Super easy to add and remove, just clamps on to the headrest posts. I’ve only used it in the back row of SUVs and crossovers but it seems like it would work just as well up front.

Yeah right! What kind of lunatic would buy that?

Oh, she's good when we're in, it's just when I open the passenger door to put a bag in, she jumps in.

How is the material on that one? Looks a little on the thin side. I’m using one I got on clearance from PetSmart a while back. Would actually go well in a GTI

Nice addition. One of my daughter’s friends had a birthday over the weekend, so all of her friends did the social-distance drive-by birthday greeting. She decided to take Rocky along for the ride. We were fortunate that she used the seat cover. Rocky got so excited by all the ruckus that he peed a little. :/

Material seems good. But I'm just about to test it, so I guess I'll give an update whenever.

Does the Sp ortwagen have mounts for a dog grate for the trunk area? Would Sammy chew through the rear seats to get around a dog grate? I think we know the answer to the second one...

Yeah, you can get Sportwagen/Alltrack cages that fit right in.  I think Sammy would chew through just about anything to get to CB

If Sammy gets unsettled in the back and claws at things. Get some clear plastic film to cover the tops of the door cards and arm rests and rear of the centre console. Dogs claws can scratch the hell out of them.

So I can seatbelt her in.

Trunk is also being used for trunk things most of the time.

I know a guy who’s cage didn’t quite work out for his pet.

Sad. I mean, crashes are usually bad for pets

*CB* In this case the pet was more determined to escape the cage than their body could withstand. *CB*

oooh lol.  I thought you meant someone who’s doggo didn’t fare well in a crash with a cage in the car.
